On Thursday 13 April 2023, from 6 to 9 pm, Pages of the Soul, a solo exhibition by Linn Espinosa, opens at Galleria Studio Cenacchi, Via Santo Stefano 63, Bologna.

The Colombian artist’s first solo exhibition at Studio Cenacchi, running from 13 April to 11 May 2023, is curated by Jacopo Cenacchi. Many years after her last solo shows at the historic Galleria Paolo Nanni, the exhibition brings Espinosa’s latest works, created in 2023, into dialogue with a selection dating from 2004 to 2013, tracing the development of her artistic practice.

Odette Gelosi wrote of the Bogotá-born artist:

“Her canvases reveal a poetic language centred on the expression of inner states through references to a reality that is fragmented and broken down into its constituent parts, each taking on the colours of the artist’s psychological world. Powerful tones emerge, carrying the brightness and chromatic intensity of the skies of her native country or the Mediterranean lands of the south. […]

Colour plays a predominant role in Espinosa’s paintings. Applied with a gestural approach, it builds through overlapping layers of different hues, varying degrees of intensity and subtle glazes. Across broad fields of colour, these elements create vibrations and resonances between the different pigments.

All Linn Espinosa’s paintings might be described as snapshots of the psyche.”

Ci sono ancora storie trasparenti da raccontare — There Are Still Transparent Stories to Tell — is the title of the work chosen as the exhibition’s key image. The acrylic paintings on display are, as they have always been in Espinosa’s practice, intimate stories and fragments of thought: self-contained narratives that lead us back to the ‘primordial essence of things’.

Espinosa’s visual language is immediate and universal. Every element develops slowly and deliberately, drawing us towards that inner ‘place where memories are kept’ — a place that belongs to each of us.
