On Friday 24 October 2025 at 6 pm, the solo exhibition A1 by Attilio Melfi opens at the Studio Iusgate venue, Via Castiglione 81, Bologna.

The exhibition, dedicated to Bologna, Naples and Rome, features 14 works, 13 of which are previously unseen, and is accompanied by a critical text by Carmen Nolasco.

As the author writes:

“Human figures are almost always absent or reduced to indistinct shadows. What matters is not the individual, but the place. This absence does not darken the scene; rather, it heightens the light, even when reduced to the thin filaments of railway tracks in the darkness of a train landscape. Light does not always illuminate—at times it reveals, as in a golden sunset. The absence of inhabitants transforms the city into a landscape of the soul. It is ‘still cinema’ in its purest form: frames that capture contemporary rawness without the need for a crowd. The lights remain on, but the actors have left the scene.

Attilio’s magic lies not in painting solitude, but in rendering an empty street that makes us feel alone. He does not depict suspended time, but fixes a precise moment that brings time itself to a halt. His technical realism becomes a tool of truth: every detail is rendered with photographic precision, filtering nothing out, and offering the viewer more intimate and personal revelations.

His are cities that exist only in the exact moment in which we observe them. A blink, and the world returns to its restless noise.”
