3.0 Diptychs, Triptychs, and Perhaps Single Works Too…, curated by Gabriele Salvaterra, is the third chapter of Francesco. A Vessel for Painting. Presented at Galleria Studio Cenacchi in Bologna during Arte Fiera 2026, the project brings together a wide range of approaches to contemporary painting in Italy and internationally.

The project looks back to the work of Francesco Siracusa’s exhibition space in Agrigento, active between 2014 and 2019. Nearly thirty artists are invited to contribute freely, revealing how far painting can extend today: from figuration and abstraction to gesture, construction, technology, sculpture and dematerialisation.

The Bologna exhibition revisits that earlier experience while looking to the future. Many of the artists who exhibited in Agrigento return with new contributions, free from any prescribed theme or direction. What connects them is simply the desire to present their own distinctive practice.

The project has continued to evolve at each stage. The inaugural exhibition in Ala introduced Roberta Cavallari, Igor Molin and Michele Parisi, followed in Trento by Elisa Grezzani and Federico Lanaro. In Bologna, Andrea Astolfi, Domenico Grenci, Paolo Migliazza and Luca Moscariello join the project. This expanding group reflects the spirit of Francesco Siracusa’s original research: an ongoing process of discovery and exchange that resisted fixed categories in favour of new artists, new images and new approaches.

Bologna has a particular significance within this story. Many of the participating artists studied in the city, live or work here, or regard it as an important point of reference in their careers. Bologna was also central to Francesco Siracusa’s own exploration of contemporary painting. More than perhaps any other Italian city, it offered not so much a clearly defined school as a distinctive artistic atmosphere.

The exhibition at Galleria Studio Cenacchi therefore brings a long-running journey full circle, reconnecting ideas, artists and relationships that first emerged many years ago.

Conceived as a travelling project, Francesco. A Space for Painting aims to be both a meeting place and a platform for thinking about painting: a space in which the medium can be observed, discussed, challenged and carried forward, continuing the vision that Francesco set in motion.
