EXHIBITION
Francesco contenitore di pittura
17 January > 21 March 2026
3.0 Dittici, trittici, ma anche opere singole, forse…, curated by Gabriele Salvaterra, marks the third chapter of the project Francesco. Contenitore di pittura, which brings a wide range of approaches to contemporary Italian and international painting to Bologna, within the spaces of Galleria Studio Cenacchi, during Arte Fiera 2026.
Drawing on the documentation of the activity carried out between 2014 and 2019 by the Francesco Siracusa exhibition space in Agrigento, nearly thirty artists—contributing freely—present the multiple trajectories of the medium, spanning figuration, abstraction, mark-making, construction, technology, sculpture, and dematerialisation.
The Bologna chapter of Contenitore di pittura represents a renewed attempt to revive that experience: to honour it, commemorate it, and relaunch it with a forward-looking perspective. It brings together many of the artists who previously exhibited in the Agrigento space, each presenting independent contributions, guided by no necessity other than the desire to share their own irreducible practice. Following the additions of the inaugural event in Ala (Roberta Cavallari, Igor Molin and Michele Parisi) and the subsequent one in Trento (Elisa Grezzani and Federico Lanaro), this iteration also includes Andrea Astolfi, Domenico Grenci, Paolo Migliazza and Luca Moscariello, further confirming a dynamic process of mapping and dialogue that, even at its origin, resisted fixed groupings in favour of continuously seeking new figures, images and approaches.
Many of the exhibiting artists have been trained in, are based in, or maintain significant professional ties with the city of Bologna. The mapping activity initiated by Francesco Siracusa also found in Bologna—arguably the only Italian city that can be described, if not as a true “school”, then at least as possessing a distinctive sensibility—a key point of reference. In this sense, the exhibition at Galleria Studio Cenacchi may symbolically represent the closing of a circle whose origins date back several years.
The project, conceived as itinerant in nature, aspires to become both a “container of painting” and a platform through which to observe, discuss, and challenge this language, projecting it forward and carrying on the legacy entrusted by Francesco’s vision.
