The Academy of Fine Arts of Bologna presents Opentour 2025, a city-wide exhibition programme hosted across galleries and private spaces. Galleria Studio Cenacchi takes part by hosting two exhibitions featuring works by students from the MA Photography programme. On the upper floor, the exhibition Trasformazioni, curated by Paola Binante, Luca Panaro and Paola Squizzato, presents a dialogue on nature and transformation through the photographic works of Tania Gjoka, Viola Ricci and Eleonora Silvestri.

The exhibition reflects on ongoing transformations within photographic language, here centred on flowers marked by aesthetic imperfections, which emerge as key subjects in the works on view. In Mutatio by Tania Gjoka, the fragility of discarded floral specimens is conveyed through the conversion of photographs into audio files, subsequently manipulated through sound. Once returned to their visual form, the images appear profoundly altered: their traditional colour gives way to spectral shades of grey.

Viola Ricci’s project Leafcutter explores another form of transformation, mediated by the intervention of a latent protagonist that, in some sense, becomes the author of the work. The installation presents a series of leaves altered by the activity of the leafcutter bee, whose presence is revealed at the end of the sequence. The vegetal elements are rendered through a photographic imprint, presented as organic traces—found objects already shaped by a living organism that has transformed them.

Eleonora Silvestri’s work Crown Shyness (no more) takes the form of a photographic diptych, composed of a large-scale image alongside a smaller photograph that blends into the frescoed space of the exhibition. The work depicts the meeting of tree branches, countering the supposedly “egoistic” behaviour attributed to them—often described as “shy”, avoiding contact to prevent damage or contagion. Here, the artist instead suggests values of collaboration and inclusion, expressed through the contact between branches.
