Photographs from Gian Butturini’s book Dall’Irlanda dopo Londonderry. In this series, Butturini adopts a classic documentary approach, recording the events unfolding during those tragic days from the perspective of those caught up in the violence.
Against an unremittingly bleak and threatening backdrop of barricades, anti-vehicle obstacles, barbed wire, armed soldiers and burnt-out cars, Butturini also turns his camera to the many children living through the conflict. He photographs them with warmth and empathy, capturing the innocent victims of a generation growing up amid violence and poverty.
