The exhibition, dedicated to Bologna, presents recent works (oil, acrylic and watercolour) by Maurizio Tangerini, a painter deeply connected to the city.

While the theme of the city has always been central to his practice, Bologna holds a special place: although originally from Cento, Tangerini can be considered a “chosen son” of the city, to which he continues to devote his work with passionate dedication.

His representations capture corners of the city — arcades, streets, everyday scenes — populated by real people engaged in simple, natural gestures. A single detail — a streetlamp, a sign, a bus — is enough to immediately define a place.

Tangerini demonstrates a strong command of multiple techniques, including acrylic, oil, tar and watercolour. His watercolours are immediate and incisive, drawing the viewer into the scene. Urban life unfolds like a natural stage, animated by figures moving through their daily routines.

The outskirts, by contrast, are depicted in their contemporary condition: fragments of abandoned buildings, stretches of asphalt marked by white lines that vanish into the distance. Even in the absence of people or vehicles, these spaces evoke movement and imagined presence.

Tangerini does not offer a moralistic critique of urban desolation. Instead, his work conveys a quiet, embracing vision — an awareness that Bologna cannot be separated from its peripheries. Through this perspective emerges a deeply felt, almost filial love for the city, combined with a lucid understanding of the alienating aspects of its margins.
