Giorgio Zucchini was born in Bologna in 1939, where he lives and works. He made his debut in 1972, taking part in the group exhibition Prospettive 5 in Rome and presenting his first solo show at Galleria Duemila in Bologna, where he would exhibit again two years later. Among his notable solo exhibitions are those held in 1974 at Galleria San Fedele in Milan, in 1976 at Galleria Pellegrino in Bologna, in 1984 at Mostra d’Arte Annunciata in Milan, and in 1986 in Bologna at Galleria Studio G7 and Galleria Spazia. Throughout his career he has participated in major group exhibitions in Italy and abroad. These include the historic exhibitions Anni Ottanta and I Nuovi-Nuovi, curated by Renato Barilli—later revisited in 2009 in Turin as Siamo sempre i Nuovi Nuovi. In 1980 he exhibited at Holly Solomon Gallery in New York (Italian Wave, curated by Francesca Alinovi) alongside artists such as Benuzzi, Jori, Salvo and Ontani, and in the same year at the Museum of Graz in Eine Distensive Szene. In 1984 he took part in Una generazione postmoderna. Iconici, aniconici, immagine elettronica at the Civic Museums of Reggio Emilia (curated by Renato Barilli and Roberto Daolio), and in 1995 again in I Nuovi-Nuovi at the Galleria Civica d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea in Turin. More recently, in 2012, he was included in Un’altra storia. Arte italiana 1980–1990 at MAU in Turin. In 2013 he participated in Art Cards: past and future (Artforum, Bologna) and Without Red Stamp (H2O Art Space, Bologna). In 2015 he exhibited in Angelo Venturoli. Tra l’opera, il Collegio e la sua eredità: i borsisti tra il 1930 e il 1980 (Bologna and Crespellano di Valsamoggia), as well as in Pittura Museo Città at the Galleria Civica d’Arte Contemporanea in Viadana. In 2016 he took part in Secondo salone della pittura bolognese dal 1946 ai giorni nostri (Galleria Fondantico, Bologna) and in Bologna dopo Morandi at Palazzo Fava, curated by Renato Barilli.
