On Saturday 8 March 2025 at 5 pm, Inner Space, the fourth solo exhibition by Elena Franco, opens at Galleria Studio Cenacchi, Via Santo Stefano 63, Bologna.

Elena Franco has long explored places and the ways in which they are experienced and perceived. With Inner Space, she temporarily moves away from constructed environments to engage with the natural spaces of caves. Here too, however, she does not simply document these environments—artificially illuminated—but investigates their transformation through contact with human presence.

By intervening manually on the photographs, the artist redefines the image: an inverted world in which one is invited to immerse and lose oneself, seeking resonances between the photographed and reworked environments and our own inner space.

Inner Space draws on literary and cinematic references, inviting reflection on ourselves and the environment we inhabit—from the infinite to the centre of the Earth.

The project originated at Chippendale Studio in Milan, where Elena Franco produced an artist’s book in 2018. This research now culminates in the present exhibition, which features 15 works.
