Luca Mantovani (Mantua, 1988) is an architect and documentary photographer. His research focuses on the representation of urban and landscape vision, with particular attention to the origins of landscape and to the relationship between literature, photography and architecture in connection with memory and mythology. He graduated in Architecture from the IUAV University of Venice and has collaborated with architects Paolo Zermani and Francesco Di Gregorio, as well as with Alessandro Gattara in the field of neuroscience. His approach to photography developed through encounters with Arturo Carlo Quintavalle, Gloria Bianchino and Arrigo Ghi. With Franco Guerzoni he explored themes related to the relationship between landscape and archaeology, leading to an ongoing conceptual photographic project interpreting the work of the Modena-based artist. He attended Giovanni Chiaramonte’s course Drammaturgia dell’Immagine at IULM University and NABA in Milan, continuing a collaborative relationship with him until his passing, and worked as an assistant to photographer Luca Capuano. His multidisciplinary research involves figures such as Luca Panaro, Franco Guerzoni, Luca Capuano, Dario Costi, Marcello Sparaventi and Diego Mormorio. His work has been discussed by critics and historians including Arturo Carlo Quintavalle, Gloria Bianchino, Elena Pontiggia and Paolo Barbaro, as well as architects Alberto Ferlenga, Matteo Agnoletto and Paolo Zermani. He participated in the 16th Venice Architecture Biennale in the Italian Pavilion curated by Mario Cucinella. His research has been presented at institutions such as Casa del Mantegna, Politecnico di Milano, the Universities of Parma and Bologna, IUAV Venice, Centrale Fotografia and the National Museum of Photography. His photographs have been published in Domus, Quodlibet, FAMagazine, Tre Lune and Grafiche Step, and are included in the photography section of CSAC (Centro Studi e Archivio della Comunicazione) in Parma. He is currently working on a photographic campaign for Milano Centrale Festival focusing on the architecture of Luigi Caccia Dominioni, Gio Ponti and Mario Cavallè, and on a photographic research project for the University of Parma exploring landscape areas in Emilia-Romagna, including the Medicina radioastronomy station, for a volume edited by architect Dario Costi (LetteraVentidue).
