PERSO NEL BOSCO / 2000

In the Perso nel bosco series, Rigamonti’s shadowed images immerse us in a tangle of branches that seem to brush against our faces, reaching toward us. The distant horizon flips into an oppressive closeness, defying any “controlled” or rational perspective, as if we are truly lost in the forest. Seeing becomes an experience of sensing, unstable and pervasive, escaping conscious thought, swaying with the movements of a wandering body, disoriented among frost-bitten undergrowth and meadows. With their discontinuous, non-linear logic, these shadowed, drifting, disorienting images unsettle our sense of time and space, transforming photography into a tactile record of experience within nature rather than in front of it.
