CROCEVIA — Open Tour

Open Tour is a week-long celebration of art, taking place from 17 to 22 June, when the Academy of Fine Arts of Bologna moves beyond its classrooms and into galleries, exhibition venues and cultural spaces across the city. It offers the public an opportunity to discover the work produced by students and teachers at the Academy.

Studio Cenacchi takes part with CROCEVIA, a group exhibition curated by Beatrice Buscaroli.

Buscaroli writes:

“Drypoint, etching, aquatint, intaglio, woodcut, lithography and screen printing. These are just some of the most familiar names given to the art of working a matrix from which an edition is produced. Together, they belong to the complex world of printmaking, a field with a distinguished tradition in Bologna, shaped by masters such as Giorgio Morandi and Luciano De Vita.

Over the years, this tradition has expanded through research, experimentation and the cross-fertilisation of different techniques. Students at the Academy of Fine Arts of Bologna have taken these possibilities in new directions, achieving a remarkable expressive intensity. Their work demonstrates that even within an art based on multiples and reproducibility, creativity not only survives but demands rigorous planning, control and constant reassessment. After all, every graphé inscribed on a matrix is irreversible.

This new flourishing of printmaking has created a territory whose boundaries are increasingly fluid and difficult to define, opening up new formal possibilities while revealing the vitality of a tradition that continues to reinvent itself.”

The exhibition presents works by nine students from courses taught by Maria Agata Amato, Manuela Candini and Annamaria Stanghellini:

Sahar Akrami: Donne, prints (toner transfer)
Greta Bonfiglioli: La regina degli zingari, artist’s book (monotypes on zinc plates)
Luca Degli Esposti: Discissioni, artist’s book (drypoint on Tetra Pak)
Elisa Negroni: Movimenti, prints (aquatint on zinc)
Gabriella Presutto: Tessere la cura, artist’s book (embossing)
Amirah Suboh: Senza titolo, prints (etching and soft-ground etching)
Eleonora Terzi: Garanzia, print (aquatint and mixed media)
Rachele Turini: Come fosse pagliuzza, prints (etching)
Along Wang: Distanza di libertà, prints (mixed media)

A jury comprising Lorenzo Balbi, Artistic Director of MAMbo, collector Paola Giovanardi Rossi, and Simone Menegoi, Artistic Director of Arte Fiera, will select the recipients of two awards.

The Critics’ Prize, funded by Banca di Bologna, will be awarded to a work that will subsequently enter the bank’s collection. The Collectors’ Prize, funded by a group of Bologna art collectors, will recognise a second work, which will become part of MAMbo’s collection dedicated to emerging artists.
