Morena Pedrini’s work draws inspiration from the many forms of the mineral and plant worlds. She explores their hidden spaces, following the subtle traces that emerge on the surface. Her worked paper pieces, punctuated by constellations of tiny holes and crossed by barely perceptible reliefs, are constantly transformed by the shifting and unpredictable relationship between materiality and transparency, artistic intention and chance. Delicate incisions, sometimes emphasised and sometimes obscured by graphite marks, suggest a third dimension.

Her pencil frottages and self-made pigments dissolve through layers of overlapping and erasure. Their original forms gradually disappear, leaving indistinct traces behind, like fossils of accumulated thought.

And then there is light, a fundamental presence in Morena Pedrini’s installations. Drawings and incisions become both physical and imaginary devices for capturing it. When a sheet of paper encounters a ray of light, the richness and mysterious beauty of these works is revealed: a silent concert of matter, shadow and light.
