Starting from analogue photographs taken during travels across all continents, Luigi Vigliotti — Abruzzese by birth and Emilian by adoption — has created Polaroid works on watercolour paper, wood and metal through image transfer processes and emulsion peeling, combined with scratching techniques reminiscent of graffiti and action painting (vanishing images).

Inspired by a passion for miniatures, antique engravings and graphic works, Vigliotti has found in Polaroid materials an inexhaustible source for exploring unconventional paths within photographic language.

The disappearance of the Polaroid brand (vanishing film) adds a poignant note to these images.

Vigliotti’s revisitation of his analogue archive becomes a culturally layered expressive journey, allowing the viewer to experience — and the artist to relive — moments, behaviours and atmospheres from significant encounters. Through this process, one can almost hear voices, sense stories, and engage with distant realities, attempting to immerse oneself in the worlds of peoples and cultures now fading (vanishing cultures).
