EXHIBITION

Pietro Caponetti

Apparizioni

18.01 – 10.10.2025

The works on canvas by Pietro Caponetti seem to emerge, both physically and metaphorically, from a distant past.

His artistic process unfolds through a distinctive technique: a slow and layered practice involving the application of earth pigments, excavation, and painting, repeated multiple times. The predominance of soft tones recalls sinopie—the preparatory drawings of ancient frescoes that resurface through contemporary excavations.

In Saltatore, for instance, the figure—perhaps a high jumper from an ancient Olympic setting—may equally suggest a body collapsed or lying down. Caponetti offers no definitive clues, leaving each viewer free to find their own interpretation and personal resonance.

In other works, one encounters compositions reminiscent of cave paintings, populated by animals, trees and vegetation, forming a highly personal and enigmatic jungle.

Ultimately, in Caponetti’s work, it is not the choice of subject that is central, but the desire to enter into resonance with those sinopie, with those ancient frescoes. Through his meticulous and highly original practice, the artist seeks to convey their enduring fascination—suspended between nostalgia and estrangement.
