Curated by Jacopo Cenacchi, the exhibition presents 15 works of varying formats, 14 of which are previously unseen.

With these new works, Tangerini deepens themes explored over the past three years, continuing his reflection on our relationship with the territory we inhabit and the traces we leave upon it. These landscapes—constructed through a limited palette and rapid brushstrokes suggesting overpasses, cars, factories and pylons—are marked by a suspended atmosphere, emptied of visible human presence. Yet humanity remains implicitly present, as the maker of these structures, often abandoned or incomplete.

The atmosphere evoked by these works recalls certain scenes from Cormac McCarthy’s novel The Road: industrial ruins, expanses of fields suggesting recent but not definitive disappearance, deserted construction sites.

This latest phase in Tangerini’s painting begins with a meticulous subtraction of clearly defined figurative elements, replaced by more contemporary marks. The artist no longer offers the viewer the precise and definitive lines of the architecture of Bologna—his adopted city—or other historic places. Instead, he leaves us contemplating paintings with only hinted contours. We do not know which places are depicted, and ultimately, this is not the point.

What matters is his invitation to look within ourselves, among the many associations these works evoke, and to find those most attuned to our own sensibility. A shift from his earlier practice, and a sign of a consistent and commendable drive towards renewal.
